Dr. Kenza SAOU is an assistant professor of English at Batna 2 Univeristy, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Department of English Language and Literature. She holds a PhD in Language Sciences with a specializaion in Sociolinguistics.
This course introduces students to essential learning approaches and higher-order thinking skills required for academic success and lifelong learning. It explores four interconnected areas: active learning, reflective learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Through these themes, students are encouraged to move beyond passive knowledge acquisition and become engaged, autonomous, and responsible agents in their learning processes.
The course begins by examining the principles of active learning and reflective learning, highlighting the importance of participation, collaboration, self-evaluation, and continuous improvement. Students will explore different strategies that enable them to become more effective learners and develop greater awareness of their strengths, challenges, and learning habits.
The second part of the course focuses on critical thinking and problem-solving as fundamental skills in higher education and professional life. Students will learn how to analyze information, evaluate evidence, identify assemptions, make informed decisions, and apply systematic approaches to solving academic and real-world problems.
Through interactive activities, case studies, discussions, reflective tasks, and assessment activities, students will have opportunities to apply theoretical concepts to authentic situations. By the end of the course, learners will have developed practical strategies to enhance their academic performance, improve their decision-making abilities, and become more independent and reflective class agents.
Students are expected to have basic academic skills and knowledge before starting this course. They should demonstrate a general understanding of university learning practices and be able to participate actively in classroom activities, discussions, and collaborative tasks.
Students should possess basic abilities in reading, comprehension, communication, and information processing. The are expected to have the capacity to express their ideas, engage in simple analysis, and reflect on their own learning experiences. Basic digital literacy skills, including the ability to access online learning plateforms and use educational technologies, are also recommended, particularly in blended and hybrid learning environments.
